Tripwire and LifeJourney Launch Virtual Cybersecurity Education Initiative
LifeJourney technology partnership focused on addressing shortage of cybersecurity professionals
Tysons Corner, Va. – Cyber Security Summit – June 5, 2014 – Tripwire Inc., a leading global provider of risk-based security and compliance management solutions, today announced that it will lead the Tripwire Cybersecurity Risk Manager LifeJourney Experience for the nation’s youth. LifeJourney is a web-based, interactive classroom experience that allows students from middle schools, high schools and colleges to test-drive potential cybersecurity careers by enabling them to live a day in the life of one of America’s cybersecurity leaders.
According to the World Economic Forum and McKinsey, the economic impact of cybercrime could run as high as $3 trillion. However, our ability to defend against cybercrime is hamstrung by a worldwide shortage of cybersecurity professionals. Cisco’s 2014 Annual Security Report states that more than one million cybersecurity positions remain unfilled around the world, and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics expects the information security analyst field to grow by 37 percent through 2020.
“Unless the cybersecurity industry actively collaborates with academia, the shortage of cybersecurity professionals will continue to limit our ability to defend critical infrastructure and impact economic growth,” said Jim Johnson, CEO of Tripwire. “Programs like LifeJourney that accelerate math, technology, engineering and science literacy are critical to building the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. This initiative fits perfectly with Tripwire’s long-standing commitment to expanding cybersecurity education.”
LifeJourney students can “test drive” a variety of cybersecurity careers from leading companies. Each journey provides an understanding of the practical and academic skills needed for success by allowing students to experience a day in the life of a cybersecurity expert. LifeJourney connects students to real world projects, mission-critical initiatives and mentors that inspire and motivate them throughout every stage of their education.
“Tripwire’s leadership of the Cyber Risk Manager LifeJourney will help inspire and create the next generation of cybersecurity professionals and accelerate America’s STEM education mission,” remarked Rick Geritz, CEO of LifeJourney.
Jim Johnson, CEO of Tripwire, will join Rick Geritz, CEO of LifeJourney, on stage at the DC Metro Cyber Security Summit on June 5, 2014, to announce the launch of the Tripwire Cybersecurity Risk Manager LifeJourney Experience.
LifeJourney™ is an online career simulation experience that empowers students and individuals to test-drive future career opportunities relating to STEM and gain exposure to the skills they’ll need to achieve the future they want.
