Tripwire, Inc., an Oregon Entrepreneurs Foundation success story, gives back to the community ?through the Schoolhouse Supplies Tools for Schools program.
Portland, OR - Sep 4, 2012 - Students are heading back to school on September 5th and thanks to Schoolhouse Supplies and its 28 community business partners, 14,233 students will be starting the year ready to learn with brand new backpacks filled with school supplies.
On Wednesday, September 5th at 9:00 am, a team from Tripwire will be distributing 461 backpacks at Woodmere School in Southeast Portland in where over 65% or more of students live at or below the poverty line. Tripwire has participated since 2006 and this year is partnering with The Standard Insurance to ensure every child at Woodmere has a free backpack full of supplies.
Tripwire first connected with Schoolhouse Supplies through its involvement with the Oregon Entrepreneurs Foundation (OEN), the largest entrepreneur assistance organization in the state of Oregon. Over the last eight years Tripwire has donated over $26,000 to the Schoolhouse Supplies Tools for Schools program.
“Tripwire is honored to continue our support of this program, and to mobilize our employees to support local student families,” said Rekha Shenoy, VP of Marketing for Tripwire. “From our earliest roots, we have been deeply committed to giving back to our community, and we are looking forward once again to making sure that each student at Woodmere starts the school year off with the tools they need to learn and achieve.”
“OEN’s Entrepreneurs Foundation of the Northwest (EFNW) has a long history of connecting young companies and their employees to the community in meaningful ways, and Schoolhouse Supplies has been a valuable partner for many years,” said Anne van der Linden, Program Director of OEN’s EFNW. “We first introduced Tripwire to Schoolhouse Supplies back in 2006 and are thrilled that they have continued their very generous support through today. The Tools for Schools program gives employees the chance to give back to their community and help young children be successful in school. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.”
This is the 10 year anniversary of the Schoolhouse Supplies Tools for Schools backpack giveaway program and the first time in its history that 100% of all eligible schools in Portland will be served.

About Schoolhouse Supplies:
Schoolhouse Supplies is an award-winning nonprofit that supports public education in Portland by giving students and teachers free classroom supplies. Our mission to “serve classrooms in need by operating a volunteer-run free store for teachers, which is stocked with supplies donated by the community,” is based on the belief that every child deserves school supplies and has the right to a quality education.
The Schoolhouse Supplies Tools for Schools backpack giveaway program:
The Schoolhouse Supplies Tools for Schools backpack giveaway program creates direct links between local businesses and students in high-need schools. The program targets schools with more than 65 percent student eligibility for the Federally-funded free or reduced lunch program. Schoolhouse Supplies founded the Tools for Schools backpack program in 2003 and has given away more than 72,000 backpacks over the last nine years.
Tools for Schools is much more than a financial contribution, the program reinforces the connection between the community and public education. Each company organizes groups of employee volunteers to pack the backpacks at Schoolhouse Supplies and distributes the filled backpacks to the students on the first day of school. Companies are encouraged to maintain involvement with their sponsored school throughout the school year.
