Data Integrity Attacks-The Silent Killer, A Panel Discussion at Infosecurity Europe, April 2010

Although data integrity has long been a concern for Information Security professionals, particularly when faced with compliance audits, organizations are increasingly becoming concerned about the impacts of data integrity attacks. Consider, for example, if a drug formulation was changed in a pharmaceutical manufacturer's database and a faulty medication was released into the market. What if an individual's personal health record was altered in a health insurance provider's system that resulted in the individual receiving improper care? When faced with a data integrity attack, the implications for an organization are significant, and if made public could affect their insurance risk, credit rating and reputation. But unfortunately, data integrity attacks are difficult to detect and manage. So what can organizations do? In this panel discussion presented at the Infosecurity Europe conference in London held in late April 2010, four data integrity and security experts, including Dwayne Melancon, Vice President of Log Management for Tripwire discuss data integrity attacks and approaches for thwarting them.
