Information Security Executive (ISE) Canada winners were announced, and Symcor’s Della Shea was awarded Executive of the Year.
These Awards recognize information security executives who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in risk management, data asset protection, regulatory compliance, privacy, and network security.
Della was also invited to speak at the banquet last night, presenting on “Establishing a Cost Effective PCI DSS Compliance Program by Having a Can Do Attitude.”
With more than a decade of experience in the fields of privacy and security, Della is responsible for overseeing Symcor’s Privacy, Records Management, and PCI DSS compliance programs and provides strategic direction on all matters relating to information management throughout the organization.
Within the past year, Della was tasked with establishing a cost effective PCI DSS compliance program; one of the CEO’s top 10 priorities. In recognition of her ‘Can Do’ attitude, Della was entrusted with overseeing a team and a multi-million dollar budget to make this highly visible initiative happen.
Not being PCI compliant had escalated into a serious client satisfaction concern and threatened the company’s ability to gain new business and secure future contract renewals. Della took this challenge head on and surrounded herself with a very capable and talented team who she challenged to think creatively and do more with less.
She adopted four guiding principles that became foundational to the program:
1) Failure is not an option,
2) Commitment to budget and timelines,
3) Sensitive to client’s needs, and
4) Scope containment, but scalable for the future.
There is no doubt that with this ‘Can Do’ attitude, Della is deserving of this award.
“I’m very excited about this opportunity for Della. Having worked with her for the past year, I saw Della’s passion for excellence drive the Symcor PCI Compliance project to a successful conclusion,” Johanne Lamarre, Symcor’s Account Manager said.
“This award is a testament to Della’s results oriented approach and ability to move from vision to execution. She is an inspiring leader who truly values the contributions of her team, and of all the employees who work diligently every day to protect client and employee information.”
