Just a few days after Microsoft had announced the end of its security advisory emails, the company has decided to resume the mailing list after all.

A Microsoft spokesperson stated the company had revised its policies and decided to continue the email service once again, granting good news to many security and IT professionals:

“On June 27, 2014, Microsoft notified customers that we were suspending Microsoft Security Notifications due to changing governmental policies concerning the issuance of automated electronic messaging. We have reviewed the processes and will resume these security notifications with our monthly Advanced Notification Service (ANS) on July 3, 2014.”

Microsoft’s previous decision most likely came from the newly instated Canada anti-spam law prohibiting the sending of promotional emails without consent. However, it appears Microsoft decided its existing mailing list would not have a negative effect on the company’s policies.

Previous subscribers to the mailing list do not need to sign up to receive the emails again. New subscribers can be added to the email list here.
