Note: This post has post has been updated. Thank you!
My grandmother, Mimi, turns 95 today! She is an amazing woman, and I am so proud that she has reached this significant milestone.
It’s got me thinking: This woman, born in 1917, has experienced and seen so much in her lifetime. Epic events in history have occurred during the span of her ninety-five years.
Soon after Mimi was born, the US entered WWI. A few years later, women were given (after a well-fought battle) the right to vote. As a young teen, she lived through the Great Depression. In her 20’s she experienced the start of WWII and the subsequent stateside efforts. Then the US was rocked by the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
The “bad guys” of the era struck terror in the people of the United States and the world. The threat of being attacked was at the forefront of the consciousness of society. Mimi is a brave woman, and always has been, but I am sure that she, like everyone else, had concerns about her own safety as well as her family’s.
Today, villains still wreak havoc around the world. Some carry guns or are in possession of WMDs. Others, meanwhile, exist in a virtual world. They lurk in the shadows of the Internet, plotting to steal sensitive data or spread a crippling virus. Cyber attacks are currently at the forefront of the consciousness of society, right alongside terrorist attacks.
I am proud to be a part of Tripwire, the “good guys” who protect people from such attacks, so that they may go about their daily business. Read about us:

Now, I realize that breaches and attacks are not the stuff of birthday wishes, but when reflecting on a long and wonderful life such as my grandmother’s, one must ponder the bad along with the good. It is also an opportunity to demonstrate the resilience of people in the face of adversity.
So, Happy Birthday, my dear Mimi! You have lived a brave and wonderful life thus far, and I know that you have many years ahead of you. You are an inspiration to me and so many others!
