So in all of the chaos that ensued when the pirates were attacking Twitter and facebook something new emerged. It turns out that many pirates have actually been using Twitter itself as a weapon. Previously IRC has been the way that hackers have controlled their bots. Now it seems that they have been crafting commands and tweeting them which when the bots (oh lets just call them what they are: zombies) see the tweet they launch their payloads or do whatever the command is… http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/170207/twitter_used_to_manage_botnet_says_security_expert.html

How insidious is that. Twitter hasnot only become the target of attacks but the source! As a VERY popular social networking site there are probably millions of corporate desktops that are now potential zombies and I am not just talking about the users… talk about potential security leaks. Bad enough to be hacked but to then become unwilling pawn in the whole game… Imagine the horror when the IT Ninja heard about this one. I would be a fair number of the Ninja’s wards are Twitter users. Each of them merrily tweeting away not knowing that they have an infected computer waiting for the right tweet to come along…

Yeesh…well as long as they don’t do that to Facebook. There I said it. Yes…I now have a Facebook page. I had resisted the siren song of Facebook for years. Partly out of fear of rejection. What if I didn’t have any friends? Will you be my friend? Look me up. Chris Orr on Facebook. Or continue to follow my tweets. @theorrminator. Unless you are a zombie…then don’t…please…my brains don’t taste good…
