David Spark here reporting for Tripwire at the 2010 RSA Conference in San Francisco.
Ira Victor is the co-host of The Cyber Jungle, a weekly live security radio show and podcast heard every Saturday at 10a-12p Pacific.
Victor gave an end of day show report that really delved into two areas of the RSA Conference that have been overlooked by many, including me.
The two sessions he reviewed were:
- How to look on the timecodes on a hard drive to determine when an incident occurred. Turns out it’s extremely difficult if not impossible to rely on the hard drive timecodes as being accurate as to when information was sent, yet people are being convicted on this basis.
- Secondly, was a discussion of the electric smart grid. NIST was on the panel and they said that they are working on a new framework that would allow for better security that would improve the smart grid. This caused quite a commotion as the audience complained and challenged them on their practices.
