Tripwire Security Experts to Present at InfoSecurity Europe

CTO to participate in executive cyber security literacy session, Tripwire researcher to discuss new smart home hub vulnerabilities

PORTLAND, Ore. — May 28, 2014 Tripwire, Inc., a leading global provider of advanced threat, security and compliance solutions, today announced that Craig Young, security researcher for Tripwire’s Vulnerability and Exposure Research Team (VERT), will present new security research at Infosecurity Europe. In addition, Dwayne Melancon, chief technology officer for Tripwire, will lead a panel discussion on cyber literacy session for executives. The conference will take place June 2-4, 2015, at the Olympia London in the United Kingdom.

Smart home innovations are becoming increasingly common, but the technology is in relative infancy. Security researchers question whether vendors can deliver the perceived conveniences associated with smart homes without introducing new safety and privacy risks. In an effort to answer this question, Tripwire VERT conducted a security assessment of the three top-selling ‘Smart Home Hub' products  on Amazon and discovered zero-day flaws in each. This presentation will reveal findings from this study, including vulnerabilities that have not been publicly discussed.

Craig Young is an award-winning cybersecurity researcher. He has uncovered multiple router security flaws and Google authentication vulnerabilities and has filed numerous Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures.

According to a recent Tripwire study, Fortune 500 C-level executives are less confident (68 percent) than non C-level executives (80 percent) that cybersecurity briefings presented to their board accurately represented the urgency and intensity of the cyberthreats targeting their organizations. IT professionals need to provide security data that allow business executives to determine acceptable risk threshold for their unique organization. In this session, panelists will discuss techniques IT executives can use to boost the cyber security literacy of non-technical executives and board members.

Panelists include Brian Honan, founder and chief executive officer of BH Consulting; and Thom Langford, and director of global security at Sapient.
