Tripwire Security Director to Moderate Panel on Medical Device Cyber Security
PORTLAND, Ore. — November 5, 2015 — Tripwire, Inc., a leading global provider of advanced threat, security and compliance solutions, today announced that Tim Erlin, director of IT security and risk strategy, will moderate a panel on medical device cybersecurity at the NH-ISAC and A-ISAC Fall Summit 2015. The summit will take place November 11-13, 2015, at the Green Valley Ranch Resort Spa and Casino in Henderson, Nevada.
In this panel, Tim Erlin and other experts will discuss how healthcare organizations can respond to evolving cyber threats by improving the cybersecurity of medical Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
Panel attendees will learn:
- How to prioritize security vulnerabilities found in medical devices.
- The best and most relevant standards for securing interconnected medical devices.
- How healthcare vendors and independent security researchers can work together to reduce healthcare cyber risks.
The Department of Homeland Security recently issued a warning about a cyber attack against drug pumps that would make it possible to remotely hijack and administer fatal dosages to patients. IoT devices, such as drug pumps, are playing a vital role in improving healthcare efficiency, but they also bring new and unanticipated security risks to the industry’s critical infrastructure.
“The established industry around medical devices is experiencing a dramatic change,” said Erlin. “Connected devices provide greater opportunities for innovation in patient care, but these devices are also stepping into a new world of threats and threat actors. Now is the time for the industry to come together to address these cybersecurity challenges.”
In addition to Erlin, other panel members will include Kevin McDonald, director of clinical information security for the Mayo Clinic; and Michael Wagner, senior director of information security at Johnson & Johnson.
Details of Erlin’s panel:
