1. Brief Product Overview

Tripwire for Servers tells you how your system has changed from a known, good state. It does this by first scanning your system, based upon pre-established rules, and creating a baseline. Once this baseline is created, Tripwire for Servers can be run periodically to determine how the system has changed from the baseline. If changes are detected, Tripwire for Servers generates a report of the changes, and optionally, sends alerts via email, syslog, or SNMP. In addition, it has the ability to export these reports as HTML or XML files.

Tripwire for Servers uses a user-defined policy file. This policy file specifies which objects and properties of those objects to check. The policy file can be tuned to eliminate noise of day-to-day system changes based upon normal system operation, and only report significant, actionable events. The policy file also characterizes objects or groups of objects based upon function and relative severity. When multiple integrity violations are reported,Tripwire for Servers will sort the output based each object's function and relative severity as defined in the policy file, allowing you to easily see and address the most serious issues first.

Tripwire for Servers includes a default policy file for each operating system on which it is supported.

Tripwire for Servers includes software that enables it to connect to one or more Tripwire Managers. Tripwire Manager is a robust, cross-platform management console that enables IT operations and security professionals to manage all Tripwire for Servers installations from a central location. Rather than monitoring each component individually, using Tripwire Manager saves time and provides a comprehensive overview of file-level changes to servers across the enterprise.
